ACTION: OPEN LETTER TO BETH BROOKE-MARCIANIAK—YOU CAN’T HAVE IT BOTH WAYS

THE ISSUE:

One of the most prominent women fighting for decades for women’s and girls’ rights, Beth Brooke-Marciniak, voted ten times by Forbes as one of the “World’s 100 Most Powerful Women” now faces a crossroads. Will she champion women’s sex-based rights or will she promote “gender identity” mythology which denies the biological reality of women, dismantles women as a legal sex category and thus eradicates women’s sex-based civil rights? She can’t have it both ways.

WHAT YOU CAN DO:

OPEN LETTER:

Dear Beth Brooke-Marciniak,

Thank you for your decades of extraordinary representation for the advancement of women’s and girls’ needs and rights. Women and society have gained significantly from your leadership.

But times and circumstances have changed and your contributions are in danger of becoming null and void. The reason: Many of your trusted global alliances have, under the banner of ‘diversity and inclusion’, turned against the cause of women and girls by promoting “gender identity” mythology, which amounts to a deconstruction of sexual dimorphism in society and in law literally. In other words, the erasure of women’s sex-based rights.

Please realize that a world leader for women cannot have it both ways: One cannot protect women’s sex-based rights and LGB rights—which are based in same-sex attraction—while simultaneously supporting an ideology which literally excludes women and girls as a sex-based category with rights, the rights you have fought for passionately. Please don’t let this happen.

The hard but simple fact is that your years of championing women’s sports comes to nothing when men can compete as ‘women’. Will you speak out in solidarity with courageous star women athletes such as Martina Navratilova, Paula Radcliffe, Sharron Davies and with the teen girl athletes like Selina Soule and Alanna Smith who are suing due to losing opportunities for scholarships because males are allowed to compete against them? It is exactly because women are not standing in solidarity that those who have spoken out are forced to backpedal. We need our collective strength to support the biological reality of what a woman is.

Please consider the profound legal, societal, financial and psychological harms to women and girls brought on by the biology-denying mythology that any man can be a woman just because he says so.

Not only are women, for example, losing educational opportunities as men take women’s scholarships, the harms to women and girls extend to bodily safety. When violent males are housed in women’s prisons, women are endangered. When men can demand to be housed in women’s homeless shelters or safe houses, women seeking refuge instead are subjected to psychological distress and even physical attacks. When intact boys and men are allowed into girls’ and women’s locker rooms, bathrooms, showers and dressing rooms, young girls and women lose both a sense of safety and the dignity of bodily privacy.

You’ve had the courage and authenticity to speak out in the past no matter the cost. Will you do so now? Unless you and others bring this travesty to the fore, stand up and speak out to protect women’s and girls’ sex-based civil rights, those rights will be lost. Will you continue to lead the way?

Please do the right thing. Your leadership in solidarity with other courageous women is needed now more that ever.
