ACTION: Urge Democracy Now! to cover the San Francisco Public Library’s endorsement of violence against women.

The Issue

The San Francisco Public Library is currently exhibiting the work of the “Degenderettes,” a group that threatens violence against women. The exhibit contains* a bloody t-shirt with the language “I PUNCH TERFS!” For those not in the know, “TERF” is an acronym for the slur “trans-exclusionary radical feminist.” It is used as shorthand for branding someone as a target of censorship, bullying and sometimes violence. While the slur is levelled against anyone who dares to question the validity of “gender” ideology, it is primarily used to threaten women. The acronym “TERF” is also inaccurate because radical feminists seek only to preserve women’s hard-won right to sex-segregated spaces.

The exhibit also contains a shield containing the words “DIE CIS SCUM” (“cis scum” refers to anyone who does not self-identify as “trans” and is critical of “gender identity” ideology). The exhibit also features bats and axes, which Degenderettes members carry to women’s events as a way of threatening and silencing women. Democracy Now! and other media outlets are failing to cover this story.

* The library removed one of the shirts, but the rest of the exhibit, which continues in the spirit of punching and killing women, remains.

Dear Amy Goodman and other members of Democracy Now! (cc national media),

The San Francisco Public Library is currently exhibiting the work of the “Degenderettes,” a group that threatens violence against women. The exhibit contains a bloody t-shirt with the language “I PUNCH TERFS!” (The library removed the shirt, but the rest of the exhibit, which continues in the spirit of punching and killing women, remains.)

In case you are unaware, “TERF” is a slur acronym for “trans-exclusionary radical feminist.” It is used as shorthand for branding someone as a target of censorship, bullying and sometimes violence. While the slur is leveled against anyone who dares to question the validity of “gender” ideology, it is primarily used to threaten women. (The acronym “TERF” is inaccurate because radical feminists seek only to preserve women’s hard-won right to sex-segregated spaces.

The exhibit also contains a shield containing the words “DIE CIS SCUM” (“cis scum” refers to anyone who does not self-identify as “trans” and who is critical of “gender identity” ideology). The exhibit also features bats and axes, which Degenderettes members carry to women’s events as a way of threatening and silencing women.

These threats are real. In April, a trans-identified male who calls himself “Tara Wolf” was convicted of assault for beating a 60-year-old grandmother in the UK. Her “crime” had been to attend a meeting to discuss “gender identity” ideology. Wolf had previously posted on Facebook that he intended to attend the event and “fuck up some TERFs.”

Why is Democracy Now! not covering stories such as these? The people have a right to know the kinds of threats and violence against women that are being carried under the banner of “gender identity” ideology.

Thank you and sincerely,
[YOUR NAME OR “A CONCERNED RESIDENT”]
