ACTION: Call on Abraham Lincoln High School to Honor the Rights of Female Students to Safety and Privacy

The Issue

On Friday, a group of female students made history by walking out of their high school, in protest of a school policy that allows male students into the girls’ bathrooms, locker rooms, and changing rooms. These girls are exceptionally brave.

Dr. Vickie Murillo, Superintendent of the Council Bluffs Community School District, said, “According to the U.S. Department of Education, which Iowa has adopted that same language and is now a part of our state law, our students who are transitioning into a new gender have the right to use the restroom that they identify. So it is our obligation to allow that to occur.”

This is ridiculous. There is no such thing as “a new gender.” And forcing girls to share intimate spaces with male students is a serious violation of these girls’ boundaries.

Tell Abraham Lincoln High School and the Superintendent of the Council Bluffs School District that you think so, and that you support these girls.

What You Can Do

Email the principal and assistant principals of the school. Copy the Superintendent, local media, and national media (script below).

Dear Principal Bellows and Assistant Principals Forney and Jens (cc Dr. Vickie Murillo, WOWT, and national media),

On Friday, a group of female students made history by walking out of your school, in protest of a policy that allows male students into the girls’ bathrooms, locker rooms, and changing rooms. These girls are exceptionally brave and should be rewarded for their courage. Forcing girls to share intimate spaces with male students is a serious violation of these girls’ boundaries and dignity.

There is no such thing as “a new gender.”

Further, “gender identity” ideology is not grounded in material reality. It is a belief system adopted by some, similar to a religion, but need not be accepted as fact. Insisting that “gender identity” is innate and demanding that people use particular pronouns based on “gender identity” constitutes thought-policing. Human beings are sexually dimorphic mammals. This statement is neither conservative nor bigoted. It is simply an assertion that is grounded in material reality. “Gender identity” ideology reinforces the belief that human beings have certain innate traits or characteristics based on sex. This view is profoundly anti-science, sexist, and politically regressive.

You know better. Change your policies. Honor your girls’ right to privacy and safety.

Sincerely,
[YOUR NAME]
