Ongoing action -THIRD week, Keep Up the Heat. Tell Seattle City and Public Library to Fight Censorship and Uphold the Civil Rights of Free Speech and Assembly

The Issue:

UPDATE: The Seattle Library is still in the decision making process. They were going to announce a decision on the 19th, but decided to get more counsel from the city attorneys.

So keep up the heat. Don’t let a holiday lull allow the event be quietly cancelled. This crucial decision sets precedence for libraries across the US and also reverberates out into other countries. It is a global issue. Freedom of speech and assembly are at stake for all.

BACKGROUND RECAP: Seattle Public Library booked a Women’s Liberation Front private event on Feb 1, 2020, “Fighting the New Misogyny: A Feminist Critique of Gender Identity.” Trans activists are deluging the Library with factless propaganda, harassment and a scheduled rally to shut the event down. Executive Director and Chief Librarian, Marcellus Turner, has issued a statement in response to concerns voiced over the event. We need to be loud and visible in our protection of our civil rights of free speech, free assembly and intellectual freedom.

What You Can Do:

Keep up the heat during the holidays. The trans activists have raised a loud voice for censorship. We need to speak louder for First Amendment free speech and intellectual freedom. (“Challenging censorship” and protecting “intellectual freedom” are words from the Library’s official policy.)

Take all the actions you can by phone, email and tweets. (scripts and targets below) Spread the word! Get your friends and associates to take action. This is our golden opportunity to amplify our voice and turn the tide.

(The Mayor’s email address was not in the first two actions; it is included here. And, oops, her name spelled correctly this time.)
